Google has released a small, but really useful feature for Android users of its Maps application. Starting from today, you will be able to view your personalized ‘My Maps’ on GoogleMaps for Android. However, what you should know is that My Maps isn’t the same app as Google Maps. You will need to download it separately if you want to create your own custom maps.

But with this fresh update, you will be able to view maps from My Maps in the Google Maps app and also get info and turn-by-turn navigation to places on My Maps. If you have been using My Maps already, you know how useful it is, as it lets you carefully plan your outdoorsy activity, such as daily walks, hiking, canoeing, commuting and more. You can place markers on locations and draw lines or shapes to indicate routes and create layers and even import geographic data, like place names and coordinates.

And now, all of your data can be accessed through the Google Maps app on Android, as well. In order to view a My Map, you need to do the following:

  • Open the Google Maps app maps
  • Touch the menu >Your places
  • Scroll down to see your maps
  • Touch one to show it on the map

If you want, you can hide it, as well. You just need to open the Google Maps app maps, then touch the menu, touch your My Map and if it’s gray, it’s turned off. You can only view My Maps in the Google Maps app for Android and not the Google Maps app for iOS. Let’s hope that it will be coming to iPhone users, as well.
