The world’s most valuable startup is on a roll of sorts. After announcing the 40-inch Full HD Mi TV 2 for just $320 last week, Xiaomi is back with yet another mouthwatering proposal – a 55-inch 4K TV for just $806! Confusingly named as Mi TV 2 again, it succeeds the 49-inch 4K Ultra HD Mi TV 2.
The new 55-inch Mi TV 2 comes with a 15.2mm ultra-thin frame and crazy thin 6mm bezel on three of the four sides. This makes it thinner than the 49-inch Mi TV 2 which had 6.2mm thin bezels and 15.5mm thin frame. The new Mi TV 2 is equipped with the Samsung HD 4K (3840×2160) panel, so don’t assume it carries some crappy display panel considering the cheap price tag.
Inside, the 55-inch Mi TV 2 is powered by a MStar 6A928 quad-core 1.4GHz processor and Mali-760 MP4 GPU with re-designed bluetooth subwoofer and sound bar. There’s a 2GB DDR3 RAM along with 8GB eMMC5.0 flash storage. It supports the latest H.265 codec as well. As for the connectivity options, it supports the latest Dual band 802.11ac WiFi. There’s a Dolby MS12 virtual surround sound system to round it off.
Thanks to the quad-core processor and Mali-760 GPU, Xiaomi claims that the new 55-inch MI TV 2 can play both Ultra-HD 4K videos as well as 3D games without breaking a sweat. Being a smart TV, it also comes with a lot of apps to enhance your viewing experience. Just to be clear, you can also watch 3D movies and videos on this TV. The older 49-inch model is using LG’s 4K display panel and costs RMB 3299 ($532).
Of course, there is no word on international availability of the new TV for now. Currently, all the models of Mi TV 2 are available only in China, but Xiaomi has been promising to bring the latest Mi TV 2 to India sometime this year. Stay tuned for more information.
