In the beginning of this month, Microsoft has announced the new Lumia 640 and 640 XL, and now we’re approaching fast the moment when the two new Windows Phone devices will become available for Indian customers, as well. The two handsets are already listed on the official Microsoft India website, which points to the imminent release for Indian consumers, which is said to take place on April 7th, next week.
According to local dealers in India, the Lumia 640 will be priced at Rs. 9,999 (~$160), and the 640 XL at Rs. 13,999 (~$225); and there could be some small discounts offered. This is pretty much on par with the prices that have been initially announced by Microsoft, if we take into account the added taxes and subsidies. However, you should also take into account that both devices come in a Dual-SIM version, as well.
The Lumia 640 comes with Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim, upgradable to Windows 10. It gets a display of 5-inch with a 1280×720 resolution. It comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and sunlight readability enhancements. The smartphone is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, and it comes with a 8 MP camera, 2500 mAh battery, 8GB + 30GB free OneDrive, micro SD up to 128GB and weighs 144 g.
The bigger Lumia 640 XL also has Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim, but has a bigger 5.7” screen. It also gets a bigger 3000 mAh battery but has the same 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. There’s also a better 13 MP back camera along with a front facing one with a 5 MP sensor, as opposed to just 1MP on the 640 one. The Lumia 640 XL also comes with a one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal, which delivers 1 terabyte of storage on OneDrive and 60 minutes of Skype calling per month to landlines in over 60 countries and mobile phones in eight countries.
These handsets have been launched at a time when Microsoft was supposed to unveil a flagship, but had to delay it since Windows 10 is not yet ready. Therefore, it could be a real challenge for the company to manage and snag in some decent sales, as there are quite a few devices with better specs than these two at these prices.
