Motorola has silently launched the 4G variant of its 2nd generation Moto E in India. The Snapdragon 410 powered Dual SIM Moto E 4G is now available for pre-order on Flipkart for Rs.7,999 (~$128). Although both 3G and 4G versions of Moto E 2015 were announced together globally, Motorola had brought only the 3G version to India to begin with.
The Moto E 4G is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM. In comparison, the 3G version of Moto E (2nd gen) comes with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor. Rest of the things are nearly the same. Both carry 4.5-inch qHD display and come with 8GB of internal storage. Both have a 5MP camera on the rear and a 0.3MP front facing camera.
As we saw on our review and comparison, the Moto E (2nd gen) 3G loses out on most things when compared with similarly priced Redmi 2 and Lenovo A6000. And the biggest gripe amongst them was the lack of 4G LTE support. With the new Moto E 4G, Motorola is trying to fill in that part, as it supports both the 4G LTE bands (band 3 and band 40) in India.
But is that enough to topple the competitors? Well, it might still fall short. For one, it’s priced Rs.1000 more than bot Redmi 2 and Lenovo A6000, and is still inferior on other hardware like the display and cameras. But then, Moto phones are known for stock Android experience and fast OS updates, and don’t really have a match if these two are your priorities. The launch offers include 70% off on 8GB Transcend Class 4 microSD card, cash back for 200 customers and 6 months of unlimited music downloads on Saavn Pro.
