Last week, Xiaomi had sent out invites for a global smartphone launch scheduled to happen on April 23rd in New Delhi, India. Although the invite didn’t reveal much (except for a familiar design), it just said “i IS COMING“. Speculations were rife about what Xiaomi might be launching that day, and now, we seem to have a possible answer. The company might be planning to launch a cheaper variant of the Mi 4.

A smartphone which goes by the name Xiaomi Mi 4i was spotted by on Singapore’s IDA database. While the marketing name is clearly mentioned as Mi 4i, what’s more interesting are the Geekbench scores which were leaked as well.

According to Geekbench, the new Mi 4i will be powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor (same as the one you find on YU Yureka) clocked at 1.65GHz, 2GB of RAM, and most importantly, running on the near latest Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS. The Mi Note and Mi Note Pro are the other two devices which were launched with Android 5.0 out of the box.

These specs are almost in line with the previously leaked and rumored smartphone from Xiaomi, codenamed “Ferrari”. That is also featured to run on Snapdragon 615 with 2GB of RAM, and come with 4.9-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display along with 16GB of internal storage, a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. The Xiaomi Mi 4i might very well be Xiaomi Ferrari.

The Xiaomi Mi 4 was launched a couple of months back in India with a price tag of Rs.19,999. The phone faced some tough competition with the likes of OnePlus One, but the phone has managed to sell decently well in China. Although some people are expecting the Mi 5 to be launched on April 23rd in India, it seems highly unlikely that Xiaomi will launch their flagship phone outside of China. Going by the leaks and their invite, we can bank on the Mi 4i launch on 23rd April.
