After countless rumors, leaks and hearsay, Huawei has finally taken the stage to announce its newest flagship device, the P8. The full name of the device is actually Ascend P8, but it seems that Huawei wants to promote it just like ‘P8’; nonetheless, this is the successor to 2014’s P7 smartphone. And just like the previous generation, it gets released with the similar solid metal chassis, which looks even better now.
The device measures just 6.4mm in thinness and weighs just 144 grams, so it’s really comfortable to hold in hand. The smartphone has a 5.2-inch full HD display and what makes its overall aspect stand out is the fact that its camera sensor has almost no protrusion at all. We’re speaking about a 4-color (RGBW) 13-megapixel camera with OIS; which comes with three dedicated selfie modes. Thus, you can easily include this device on the list with some of the best selfie smartphones.
The handset gets a premium build with a full-metal unibody, unlike the metal and glass build of previous models. Huawei’s CEO said that the device comes with a special nano-coating which makes it splashproof. But looking at the sides of the device, as you can see in the above picture, another device immediately comes to mind; yes, the iPhone 6/iPhone 6 Plus.
The Huawei P8 also comes with support for dual-SIM and dual-LTE. The 2,680mAh battery is said to offer one and a half day of battery life for heavy users or a one and a half day duration for regular users, as Huawei’s CEO said. The handset runs the custom Emotion UI flavor on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop. As a special software feature, the handset come with the ‘knuckle sense technology’, letting you to double tap or just crop a part of the screen to grab a screenshot.
The Huawei P8 is powered by a Kirin 935 chipset, which is an octa-core Cortex-A53 processor which focuses on increased performance at a lower power usage. ichard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, said the following:
The goal of Huawei P8 is to become the most user-friendly smartphone for consumers globallyy. Through in-depth market research, Huawei has addressed the most pressing pain points for premium smartphone users today. Huawei seamlessly combines the best elements of style and durability in this device, delivering a revolutionary user experience – especially in terms of camera capabilities and network connectivity. Building on the outstanding market performance of Huawei’s P series, we fully believe the Huawei P8 will become one of the most popular smartphones of 2015.
The handset will come in Champagne Silver, Gold, Grey and Black. The handset will go on sale in more than 30 countries being priced at €499 for the 16GB version and the 64GB version will cost €599. The smartphone will come with its own set of accessories, like a leather flip cover. It will also get a e-ink cover, which adds a 4.3″ display that lets you read eBooks and is ‘perfectly readable’ under sunshine.
