Like it or not, OnePlus One has become synonymous with invite-based system for selling smartphones. But not anymore. The Chinese company has finally decided to ditch the invite model for selling the popular OnePlus One smartphone across the world. The phone was launched on April 23 last year, so it’s impressive to see a phone having enough demand even after an year of launch.
In a blog post published today, OnePlus has also announced that over 1 million OnePlus One smartphones have been sold across the world till date. A couple of months back, OnePlus had announced open sales for OPO every Tuesday, and has now made it permanent.
In our first big celebration of the One’s successful year, we are opening up sales globally for everyone, every day of the week. We have always wanted to put great products into the hands of more people. And, we now feel confident that we have matured enough to handle the increased complexity that comes along with opening up sales completely.
While this is a great news for people who were fed up with the invite based system, they must know that the upcoming OnePlus 2 (yes, that’s the name they mention in the blog post) will follow the same invite based system.
The OnePlus 2 will bring the challenges that come along with a brand new product, and initially, our invite system will help us to manage that risk. It also helps us to be sure that every OnePlus 2 user gets the amazing experience that they deserve.
Over the next 24 hours, OnePlus is offering a 75% discount on OnePlus Flip Covers and Premium Screen Protectors. Additionally, Bamboo StyleSwap covers will now be available without an invite (while supplies last). Sadly, this promotion is only available for USA/Canada, the European Union, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, which means the Indian users miss out. Edit: Indian users buying an OPO can get 50% off on one of the selected accessories
