Everything is becoming smart around us, and somebody has went as far as to invent a device which could make your garbage can smart. GeniCan is currently seeking crowdfunding on IndieGoGo, with a pretty ingenious concept – it scans the bar codes on items as you throw them away, and automatically creates shopping lists.

GeniCan scans the things you throw away and if they don’t have a bar code, then you can just tell it what you’ve put in the garbage can. By keeping a database with all the disposable items, GeniCan’s system creates your grocery list, matches coupons to products, and can even delivers items to your doorstep by partnering with specialized companies on this.

The grocery list is sorted aisle-by-aisle, and it also notifies you when the garbage is full. Of course, in order to function, GeniCan needs to be connected to a WiFi network. It comes with a speaker which it uses to ‘talk’ to you and there’s also a microphone so that you could introduce in the app products which don’t have a bar code. The batteries that it comes with are said to last 7 days between charges. However, you can choose for a plugged in version, as well.

The device will prompt you via voice or tone when it wants you to tell it what to add to your list. While the app is not ready yet, when it will be, you will be able to share your grocery list with others in the family.

You can pledge for one unit for just $119 with the Early Bird special price, and save $60 from the retail price. The Indiegogo campaign is seeking to raise $50,000 through contributions and pre-sales, and at the moment they are just 10% funded, with 18 days left.
