The latest version of Windows 10 has been one of the most awaited updates this year with the company claiming that the new Windows version will bring the best out of Windows 7 and 8 and add a dash of new features. The final version is due today and is given away for free to all valid users, starting with the Windows Insiders users.
Windows had prompted majority of its users to reserve a free copy of Windows 10 few months ago and in case you had done the reserve it is time to be surprised as Microsoft is seemingly pushing Windows 10 update to Windows 7 and Windows 8 users without requiring any explicit permission.
According to Forbes, Microsoft’s download utilizes a folder- C:\$windows. ~ . The file can be found in File explorer by heading to Organize>Folder Options>View>Show hidden files, folders and drives.
Windows 10 is a bulky download at 6GB and it can potentially cause problem if you are connected to a data capped network. Microsoft seems to be doing this in order to progress smoothly over the updating process and reduce bandwidth crushing.
On the contrary if you are eagerly waiting for the Windows 10 update but haven’t been allowed to do so than fret not. We will walk through some steps which would help you to lay hands on the Windows 10 almost instantly (providing you are hooked to a blazing fast Internet!).
Head to “C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download” This step involves accessing the Software update file from the root folder in which your Operating System is installed. Delete all the files in the directory so that this will allow the Windows update to progress smoothly.
Next we need to open up the “Windows Update” center by clicking on Windows key and searching for “Windows Update”.
In the meanwhile run the command prompt as an administrator by typing “cmd” in the search bar. Type (only type don’t press enter) the following command in the prompt “wuauclt.exe/updatenow”
Come back to the Windows Update and click on the “Check for updates” option. Jump back to command prompt and now enter the command typed in the previous step. Give some time and you should be able to see that Windows 10 update is ready. If you don’t see the download happening, ensure that you have reserved your free copy of Windows 10.
