Much like we reported yesterday, YU is all set to announce an entry level smartphone, named YU Yunique exclusively on Snapdeal at an event scheduled this afternoon in New Delhi. The Snapdeal page has already gone live with all the details you need!

Yunique is going to be one of the cheapest 4G LTE smartphones in the country. It’s powered by the 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor along with 1GB DDR3 RAM. The phone has a 4.7-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixel) resolution display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top of it. The rear camera is a 8MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture with auto focus, capable of recording HD videos (no 1080p). The front shooter is a 2MP wide-angle lens.

Just like they had promised during the Yuphoria launch, the Yunique carries forward the large camera design language. We expect YU to sell the plastic back covers in multiple colors like white, black, pink and cyan blue.

Interestingly, the Snapdeal page doesn’t mention Cyanogen anywhere, but just says Android 5.1 Lollipop. It does talk about smarter notifications, animations, automated quick settings and customized dialer – all parts of Cyanogen OS 12.1. We got to wait for the official launch to see if this is just an unintended miss or there’s more to it than what meets the eye.

Update: YU says the Yunique comes with stock Android 5.1, but can upgrade to Cyanogen OS 12.1 based on Android 12.1 again. We guess it’s because YU thinks Cyanogen OS is an overkill for a device with 1GB RAM.
