LG has finally brought the Stylus 2 to India which they introduced globally back in February this year. Being priced at Rs 19,500, the only USP this device holds is the stylus pen and the software assisting it. The company, unfortunately, made the same mistake again of not packing enough specifications for a mid-budget device.

The Stylus 2 features a 5.7-inch HD display which sounds immensely disappointing given the competition. Design wise, it flaunts a textured pattern on the back and metal edges to provide a better look. Underneath, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Quad Core processor clocked at 1.2Ghz (yes, the actual SoC model isn’t mentioned) backed up by 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage that is expandable up to 2TB via a MicroSD card. There’s a 13 Megapixel rear CMOS sensor along with an 8 Megapixel front camera.

On the software side, the Stylus 2 comes with LG’s UI 5.0 running on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It also supports 4G LTE with Voice Over LTE. It runs on a removable 3000mAh battery pack and also has Dual SIM functionality. There are a couple of additional functions available specifically for better pen usage including “Pen Pop” that toggles a popup menu containing various shortcuts such as “Pep Memo” and “Pop Scanner” when the stylus is detached. There’s a “Pen Keeper” utility that basically alerts you when the phone is detected as being in motion without the stylus in place. LG has also offered a new Calligraphy font that will allow you to write flawlessly as if you are using an actual fountain pen. Although, it won’t help if you’ve terrible handwriting already like me.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Amit Gujral, Marketing Head – Mobiles, LG India said, “Continuing the successful start of ‘Make in India’ series smartphones, we now bring LG Stylus2 as our latest offering in the mid-range segment. It provides both the big screen and premium note-taking functions at a reasonable price. This Smartphone yet again proves our commitment towards our consumers in the country who are always on a look out for value for money propositions without any compromise on functionality and design. As a continuous celebration of ‘Make in India’ program by LG, all LG Stylus2 buyers shall be given the LG Signature interactive smart cover, Free.

LG’s Stylus 2 will be available in Brown and Titan colours starting from 18th May on both offline and online markets. Even with the bundled smart cover, the success of this device hangs in the balance with poor execution and absolutely mediocre hardware.
