Xiaomi India has announced a permanent price drop for Mi 5 effective from today. Previously priced at Rs 24,999, the Mi 5 will now be available for Rs 22,999. The device will be exclusive to Flipkart and the offer will hold good for all the three colors (White, Black, and Gold), however, it might take some time for the new price to be updated on Flipkart.

Xiaomi Mi 5 had been one of the most anticipated smartphones since it was the first phone to come with a Snapdragon 820 in India. However, after the launch, we have seen many worthy competitors in the form of OnePlus 3 and LeEco Le Max 2. The price cut will, however, make it one of the most affordable devices running on Snapdragon 820 and is a good buy at this price.

A quick recap at the specifications, 5.15-inch FHD display, Snapdragon 820, 3GB of RAM. 16-Megapixel primary camera with 4-axis Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), 3000mAh battery pack and front fingerprint sensor. The 4-axis Optical Image Stabilization is aimed at reducing the blur whilst capturing moving objects and the Mi 5 is one of the first phones to offer the same. The 3D ceramic and the glass back add a touch of elegance and allow users to experience the marble-like feel without the bulk of it.

Thankfully, the Mi 5 also supports VoLTE which means one can directly use the Jio SIM cards to make the calls. Despite being packed to the brim with high-end hardware the Mi flagships are not exactly hot sellers, unlike the Redmi lineup. The price drop seems to be an attempt at getting people to buy the device and bolster up the value for money proposition.
