Capitalizing on Indians’ keen love for Bollywood and their intense desire to be part of that beautiful scene from their favourite movies, a 24 year old guy, Vinayak Kalani has now started an e-commerce portal called BollyWoo.
BollyWoo is a seven month old e-commerce portal for selling official Bollywood merchandise. Well, you might be wondering what’s new about it, as even some of the local shops sell such products. So in case you are unaware, let’s warn you that most of them are counterfeits without proper license from the copyright owners; the production houses in this case. The same can’t be said about the merchandise available on BollyWoo though.
The online portal sells exact same apparels from the Bollywood movies, made using the same fabric and official design; thereby distinguishing itself from its competitors like The Souled Store, Bewakoof and Bollytude. Their collections consist of merchandise from movies like Tamasha, Cocktail, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and Roy among others. The best part about shopping merchandise from the platform is their easy to use graphical selection method wherein you replay a part of your favourite movie and simply choose a merchandise by clicking on the popup showing up on your screen. BollyWoo claims to be have bagged design rights from most of the popular production houses like Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions, T-Series, Fox Studios, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures among others.
While this is the first of its kind e-commerce platform for buying Bollywood merchandise, similar portals are available for South India’s Kollywood and Hollywood movies. Fully Filmy, a Chennai based startup is one of the most popular ones when it comes to South Indian movies. That said, none of these portal offer services that BollyWoo is planning to introduce in near future. The firm plans to launch location services wherein it will allow buyers with the opportunity for recreating their favourite movie scene and be a part of it by not just offering them merchandise but by using the exact same location and props as seen in the film.
