Apple has created a segment for itself when it comes to consumer electronics, be it the iPhones or the Mac, both have a loyal bastion of customers. That said, Apple has never deviated much from its current product line-up and unlike other Chinese companies like Xiaomi, it has stuck with its core line-up. Now all that might change since Apple has applied for a patent for a paper bag. Yes, you heard that right, a paper bag!

No, it’s not a smart bag with a touchscreen or any such sort of gadget wizardry, but instead, it’s an eco-friendly bag. The picture submitted for the patent depicts a rather usual paper bag which one would get from the usual neighbourhood stores. Well, if the patent has already taken you by surprise, wait for the language that describes the bag in the patent filing, “Bags are often used for containing items. For example, retail bags may be used to contain items purchased at a retail store”. If it interests, you can read the patent filing here.

The only conclusion one would come to is that Apple wants to ditch the environmentally unfriendly bags and instead go for one that is eco-friendly and can be recycled. Apple has also outlined how it would make the bags stronger, i.e by including a collar on the top which is further strengthened by the “corrugated cardboard” insert. For me, it looks more like any other recyclable paper bags with a few improvisations here and there, but since it’s Apple, we can very well expect them to brand the bag and maybe give it a coat of white with an Apple logo. iBag anyone? or iBag Plus for you?
