LeEco has eventually forayed into the US market with their Le Pro 3 and Le S3 smartphones alongside a number of other products including Le Super4 TVs, LeVR Headset, LeBike and finally LeSee Pro. The high-flying Chinese firm is one of the biggest content providers in its homeland and is often referred to as ‘Netflix of China’. In the recent past, the company has been ramping up its smartphone and TV efforts and is also bundling their content alongside it. It is also worth noting that LeEco debuts in the US even before their arch rivals Xiaomi, their Chinese counterpart who has been talking about an ‘imminent’ launch for quite some time now.
The budget offering from LeEco dubbed the Le S3 is essentially a modified version of the Le 2 that currently sells in India and China. The LeEco Le S3 comes with a metal unibody design and sports a 5.5 inch Full HD upfront. Under the hood, the Le S3 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor that dons the latest Cortex A72 cores. This is mated with a 32GB of internal storage and 3GB RAM.
Talking of cameras, the LeEco Le S3 sports a 16MP f/2.0 rear camera with PDAF sensor and dual tone dual LED Flash. There’s also an 8MP f/2.2 selfie snapper up front. Just below the rear camera, lies a glass covered fingerprint sensor which can, in turn, be used to doing a number of tasks like shooting selfies. Powering the smartphone is a 3000mAH Li-Ion battery which comes with support for Quick charging. LeEco claims that the LeEco Le S3 goes from 0 to 50% in just 30 mins using the USB Type-C port.
The LeEco S3 runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 with the company’s own LeUI 5.8 on top. One interesting feature that’s found in the Le S3 is the absence of a 3.5mm headphone jack. Instead, the LeEco makes use of a proprietary CDLA headphone that connects using the Type C port. The Chinese firm claims that this enables them to provide a much improved audio experience to its users.
LeEco has priced their smartphones rather competitively. Just like the Le Pro3, the budget Le S3 will be retailing in the US via the LeMall with an initial discount of $100 (Rs 6,664 approx.) This effects in a resulting price of just $149 (Rs 9,923 approx.) It is also worth noting that the smartphone will be in three colors – Rose Gold, Grey and Gold and will go flash sale on Nov 2 at 10AM PT. Alongside, their phones the company has also announced the launch of their own video streaming platform in the US. This apart from their video library will have contents from Pandora, Netflix, and many others.
