Signal Sidearm might sound like an armed weapon at first but it’s not, in fact, it is a smart gun holster that will automatically detect when a weapon is removed from the pocket and will start recording. Apart from recording the scene itself, it will also trigger the recording on the body cams in the area, something which is usually worn by law enforcement agencies. The best part is that the Signal Sidearm is a sensor that can be fitted to existing holsters and this can potentially end up being implemented across Police departments.
Powering the Signal Sidearm is a coin-sized battery, yes the same one that power wrist watches and thankfully they last for 1.5 years. Again, the sensor seems to be pretty simple despite scoring big on the utilitarian front. The proximity thing we were talking about earlier, well once the weapon is drawn from the holster Axon cameras in the range of 30 feet automatically start recording the video footage. Until now, Axon has been helping out UK and US Police departments with its dash cams.
This is not the first time Axon has come up with a simple and clever implementation and in fact, the Signal Vehicle is a clever device that automatically triggers the recording of dashcams once the doors are open or even when the sirens are blazing. Signal Performance Power is a battery pack for the Tasers and it tells the nearby cameras to start recording once the weapon is armed and most importantly it logs the exact time when the trigger was pulled.
All of these functionalities can help the Police department negate a court case and will also help the Judges when it comes to the evidence part. Furthermore, devices like this are also expected to instill a sense of discipline when it comes to using the firearms. Also, it will let the law enforcement agencies concentrate on the job at hand rather than worrying about the recording. Axon is definitely building up a solid ecosystem when it comes to body worn camera footage devices.
