After launching the 360-degree videos Facebook is now set to launch a 360-degree video app on the Samsung Gear VR. As expected the app will be an optimized version and unlike the other platforms, it will only show 360-degree videos from your timeline and feed along with the other videos you have saved from the News feed. Furthermore, one will be able to post reaction and also share the videos on Facebook with the Facebook VR app.
The feature in itself is not something new as Facebook 360-dgree videos have been supported on the Gear VR’s video app for quite some time and one could already post a reaction emoji by logging onto Facebook. The Facebook 360 will be displayed on a spatial audio platform and also a 360-degree camera setup.
That said Facebook is yet to announce features that are unique only to its VR app and perhaps the very inception of a separate VR app signals the other things that might be in pipeline. The Facebook 360 app will be made available only for the Gear VR mobile headset and can be downloaded from the Oculus store. The app will offer four feeds and curates the best of 360-degree content across the platform.
With the “Explore tab”, one could take a look at all the popular video content available across Facebook along with the ones published by various media companies Facebook has partnered with. The “Following” tab will let you follow your friends feed and the “Saved” will let you play the previously saved content. “Timeline” feature will let you access all of your 360 photos and videos in a single place. Facebook has also announced that it is prepping more social features to bundle with its VR app. Facebook always has an upper hand when it comes to engagement in any form thanks to its nearly 2 billion userbases.
