A couple of days back, Reliance Jio made headlines again by offering complimentary three months of free data and voice calls for whoever subscribes and recharges under the Jio Summer Surprise plan. However, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has now asked the telecom operator to withdraw the offer as it isn’t in compliance with few of their terms. And surprisingly, Jio has accepted this decision by TRAI.
Reliance Jio, today announced that they’ve received a legal notice regarding this and they will be withdrawing the offer completely. Although, the cancellation isn’t immediate which means you can still apply for it.
However, customers who have already enrolled in it will be still able to benefit from the complimentary three months just like before.
We’re still not sure what exactly went wrong between TRAI and Jio, we’ll update the article once we get an official word. We suspect that till now, Jio was able to offer freebies since it was under the ‘Preview’ offer. With paid plans, they are probably out of options to reject TRAI’s ruling. Considering there’s no deadline defined yet, this action might work out in Jio’s favor as customers will be immediately recharging for not missing out later which actually does raise some suspicions behind this announcement.
For the uninitiated, Reliance Jio announced a couple of days back, the Summer Surprise Offer. Under this offer, whoever subscribes for the Prime membership and recharges for the Rs 303 plan or above, will be getting the first three months entirely free of cost. Furthermore, the telco stated that they’ve managed to enroll a whopping 72 Million customers for the Prime membership. We did an in-depth analysis for the same, you can find it here.
