While there is no dearth of domestic robots that are available in the market every now and then we see a new innovative robot concept taking shape. Ohmni Telepresence is one such product that aims at bringing the families together digitally. It doesn’t matter if you are on an important business trip or toiling hard in the office to meet deadlines, the Ohmni Telepresence will let you walk to your child’s bedroom and wish them goodnight. Additionally, the Telepresence robot can also shape up as a vigilant caretaker that keeps an eye on old people.
Now Telepresence robots, in general, are not something completely new but every time they have been repacked to suit a particular need and at $1,899 the Ohmi is a good deal indeed. The Ohmni Telepresence comes bundled with a tablet and all of this is included in the price we mentioned above. The Ohmni Telepresence is offered with an auto docking station which will let you charge the robot with a tap on your phone and the bot will guide itself.
The Ohmni wheelbase is a tripod which folds when packed and the moving neck can be tilted at various angles, in essence, the robot comes with body language. Apparently, the bot has already been tested in retirement communities. Since the robot works in real-time your family don’t have to dial or call you in order to get in touch. With the companion app, one can control where they are looking at and also move around the house.
The Ohmni is 4′ 8” tall which makes it easy to converse with humans and motion map adds the human touch to the conversation by simulating your facial movements. While Skype and Facetime is an awesome way to hang out with your loved ones it sure misses the human touch. That said the Ohmni cannot replace an actual human but this is the closest technology can come. One can use the telepresence robot to join their family dinners, spend time with their old parents, read out stories to kids and well the possibilities are endless.
