ZTE has now introduced two new smartphones to its Axon lineup in China. Dubbed the ZTE Axon 7s and Axon 7 Max, the smartphones are expected to play second fiddle of the previously launched Axon 7.
In typical ZTE fashion, the Chinese OEM hasn’t revealed the detailed specifications of its two new Axon devices. It has, however, clearly highlighted the fact that the new Axon 7s comes with an updated Snapdragon 821 processor. For the uninitiated, the ZTE Axon 7 was launched globally last year with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip under the hood.
Apart from that, the official image shared by the company reveals a new speaker grille design. It now features a physically larger speaker grill, but that doesn’t call for a larger driver underneath. Previously too, we have seen ZTE manipulating customer imaginations by making use of a dual stereo speaker grills in its Axon Elite despite including just a single driver.
The rest of the specifications of the smartphone are, however, expected to be carried forward from the previously launched Axon 7. This will result in the Axon 7s housing a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 4, 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. It would be interesting to see whether ZTE decides to launch a 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant of the Axon 7s, just like they did in case of the Axon 7. It might even come with Force Touch display. A quick reminder for those unaware, ZTE was one of the first companies to introduce a smartphone with a force touch display in the form of the Axon Mini back in early 2016.
The ZTE Axon 7s comes with a rear mounted fingerprint scanner, dual cameras and a 3,250mAh battery. It runs on Android Marshmallow and can be upgraded to Nougat.
On the other hand, the details regarding the ZTE Axon 7 Max are even more vague. The Chinese OEM hasn’t cleared the air about the specs of the devices, apart from stating the presence of a Snapdragon 821 chip and a large 4,100mAH battery.
As expected, the pricing and availability information of the Axon smartphones aren’t available as of yet. That said, industry tipsters claims that the ZTE Axon 7s mayn’t be making it to the mass consumer market and would be restricted to only Chinese government officials. Nonetheless, the new ZTE Axon lineup do promise a lot in terms of specs and we would have definitely loved seeing them launch in a number of global market including India. Alas, that may not be happening anytime soon; provided ZTE doesn’t change its marketing strategy by leaps and bounds.
