The latest Indiegogo project to catch my fancy (probably yours too!) is the Sobro Cofee Table. Yes, the Sobro Cofee table comes laden with technology without crossing the borderline of being an overkill. The Sobro is a smart coffee table that will help you stay connected. This also makes me wonder why furniture has not evolved and remain to serve only the primary purpose.
The Sobro is well equipped, in the sense the coffee table apart from being well-appointed boasts of a Bluetooth speaker, touch controls, USB/12V, charging ports, refrigerator and a temper proof glass top. Also, the Sobro comes equipped with a LED ambiance lighting that is designed to suit your mood. The coffee table comes with a refrigerator drawer, one that can store your chilled beer or any other beverage you fancy drinking cold. The temperature control ensures that your drink is cooled to the perfect degree and it remains that way.
Audio is yet another promising aspect of the Sobro, the stereo sound system will let you stream music/audio from your mobile devices and the table also connects with your TV. The LED lights on the underside change according to the show you are watching, your mood or the music you are listening to. Well, the list doesn’t just stop here, the futuristic coffee table boasts of touch controls which can be accessed from your table top. The tempered glass top lets you bid adieu to coffee stains and those hideous scratches.
It’s interesting to see how well researched the idea is, the makers of Sobro have indeed spent quite a time in understanding the customers requirements and the USB charging port just makes the cover table picture perfect. Once done the cords can be rolled inside and the table looks neat. Apart from the refrigerator drawer the coffee table also comes with a couple of storage drawers to stash your stuff like TV Remote, Xbox controllers and perhaps the other nitty gritty things that you deem important.
Furthermore, the Sobro is aesthetically pleasing and will go undetected as a modern piece of furniture but again who won’t love to flaunt it. The companion app serves as a control hub for the table and the only downside I can see as of now is that it doesn’t come with a laptop stand (I know it’s a coffee table but still.) The Sobro is up on Indiegogo and at $1,200 its sure to cause some angst amongst folks who have been an Ikea regular. However, early birds can get the table at $649 and it will be shipped this September.
