The legend has it that checking baby diapers without actually waking it up is an art in itself.Thankfully Technology has a solution to this problem as well and we are talking about a Korean Startup called Monit. The startup has devised a sensor that will eliminate the need for sniff tests and alert parents about the soiled diapers. Monit’s sensors not only alert the parents as soon as the diaper is soiled but also doubles up as an air quality and temperature monitor.
This is how the Monit works, the sensors placed outside the diapers can detect the feces and urine by collecting vital signs including the change in temperature, humidity and gas. Most of the other sensors detect only urine and need to be placed inside the diapers. According to the makers of Monit, the sensors can be placed on the hip of its new baby carrier which has been designed with special emphasis on ergonomics.
The baby carrier called Bebefit has been designed in partnership with Samsung Medical Center and comes with a mechanism that lets parents shift the place where the baby’s weight is centered. The hip seat apparently “lets you toggle the center of the weight on your waist and shoulders.”
The idea took shape when the founder Tony Park begun working on a diaper that would immediately alert parents as soon as it gets wait, something that was of prime importance since both of his daughters were suffering from atopic dermatitis. The concept was then submitted and eventually accepted by the C-Lab incubator program. Bebefit is the first product that comes with both the Monit sensors and the carriers, it will start selling in Korea this summer and later expand to U.S and other Asian markets.
Monit, on the other hand, is also making prototypes and is expected to hit the mass production route soon. In all likelihood, Monit might start selling the sensors on a standalone basis as well.
