Huawei’s Honor brand has extended its smartphone lineup with the launch of the new Honor 8 Lite. As the name suggests, the handset is a toned down variant of the Honor 8 featuring a similar design, downgraded hardware, and ofcourse, a much lower price tag. The Honor 8 Lite will be available for purchase starting from this month’s 12th at a price of Rs 17,999 (MOP) across all offline Honor partner stores.
Originally announced back in February, it comes with an all-glass 2.5D curved design, chamfered edges and a rather slim body measuring at 7.6mm. There’s a 5.2-inch Full HD panel up front and the phone is powered by Huawei’s own kirin 655 (16nm Technology) octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM, Mali T830 MP2 GPU and 64GB of internal memory which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a MicroSD card.
As for the cameras, Huawei has opted to include a single 12MP f/2.2 rear sensor onto the smartphone. In fact, this is one of the key differences between the two smartphones. For those unaware, the original Honor flagship came with two 12MP rear shooters out of which one captured images in monochrome and the other in RGB. Apart from the dual rear setup, the Honor 8 Lite also misses out on a Laser Autofocus technology. That said, the smartphone features an 8MP front facing camera for clicking 77-degree wide-angle selfies.
In terms of software, Huawei has offered Android Nougat out-of-the-box with its custom EMUI 5.0 running on top. Moreover, the phone runs on a non-removable 3000mAh battery and there’s a rear fingerprint scanner available as well. The Honor 8 Lite initially, will be sold only in the Black variant, however, the Blue colour option will be made available later this month.
Commenting about the launch, Mr. P Sanjeev, Vice President- Sales, Huawei India Consumer Business Group said “The Honor 8 Lite is set to revolutionize the sub-20K segment. This phone is ideal for consumers looking for a power packed phone with stunning design. The 8 Lite is a refreshing change from the current selfie offing that run on outdated chipsets; and provides users a device that is awe-inspiring both in looks and performance. Running on powerful Kirin 655 octa-core chipset backed by a 4GB RAM+64GB ROM, running on the latest Android Nougat, the Honor 8 Lite, is the best smartphone choice for consumers. ”
