Asus has now launched its take on Mesh WiFi. It is called the Asus Lyra Home WiFi system. The Lyra mesh WiFi system joins a long list of other mesh WiFi routers consisting of Google WiFi, Linksys Velop, Netgear Orbi and TP-Link Deco M5.
The Asus Lyra Home WiFi system works by using multiple routers not just to extend WiFi signals to each corner of your home, but also maintain a uniform speed at all the places. It will help to overcome the various WiFi signal interferences in your home like walls, door, pillars, etc. Besides, the mesh system also helps to eliminate dead sports in the network.
The system comes with a set of three routers called hubs and is capable of covering up to 6,000 square feet of area. The routers from TP-Link and Netgear, on the other hand, covers an area 5,000 square feet and 4,000 square feet respectively. Asus will be selling additional hubs separately for those who need a wider area of coverage. The hubs have a flat circular appearance with an Asus logo on top. It comes only in white color.
Asus reveals that the Lyra Mesh WiFi uses three frequency bands. One is a dedicated inter-hub communication band, while the other two are standard 2.4GHz and 5GHz band. The main highlight of the Lyra system is the presence of a commercial grade security system. This system is powered by Trend Micro’s Smart Home Network. Asus is calling it as “AiProtection”. Apart from network security, it also comes with anti-virus property. It will be automatically updated over the internet to block malicious attacks on the Mesh WiFi system.
The Asus Lyra Home WiFi system comes with a mobile app. This app enables you to setup the system, add more hubs to the network, create SSID and check information regarding consumption of data. Needless to say, that the app on your smartphone connects to the system using Bluetooth.
Asus Lyra Home WiFi system is now available for sale via offline and online channels in the US. It is currently listed on Amazon, B& H Photo, Fry, and Newegg. The standard box pack of Asus Lyra consists of three hubs and will cost $399.
