Last year WhatsApp had announced that it has 1-Billion active users every month, guess what, the number has now increased to staggering 1.3-Billion users every month. The number of daily users has also crossed the 1-Billion mark. WhatsApp has also been extraordinarily successful in implementing the Snapchat inspired Stories feature into status.
Other interesting statistics include 55 billion messages exchanged every day across 60 supported languages. A whopping 1 billion videos are shared on a daily basis while the number of photos stands at 4.5 billion. WhatsApp has been announcing new features in a very gradual manner and the latest one to make it to the final build was the ability to send any files to contacts.
Interestingly WhatsApp has grown more than two folds after it was acquired by Facebook in 2014. At the time of acquisition, WhatsApp had only 450-Million users on board. India has been one of the strongest markets for WhatsApp, in February this year the company announced that the active users in India have clocked an impressive 200 million.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we’re committed more than ever to bringing you more useful features to enjoy, while delivering the reliability, simplicity, and security you expect with WhatsApp”- CEO, Jan Koum.
Acquiring users to the tune of Billions is no easy task and it is noteworthy to see how the user base has doubled in the last 2-3years. Unlike other messaging services WhatsApp has been very selective of the features they introduce. For instance, WhatsApp was late to the party when it comes to the video chat feature yet it was successful. In all likelihood, Facebook is expected to start monetizing from WhatsApp by introducing business integration.
