OnePlus has rolled out yet another beta update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones. While overall the OTA is quite brief, there’s one valuable addition it brings – Parallel apps. The feature has been available through various third-party applications for ages and recently, has been a talk of the town at press events.
If you’re unaware of the concept, “Parallel apps” essentially allow you to run two instances of the same app concurrently. For instance, you can operate on two WhatsApp or Facebook accounts together. Xiaomi, as well, not long ago, updated its homebrew MIUI skin with this feature and we have seen the same on other ROMs from Huawei, Asus, etc.
In addition to that, the update comes with a slew of minor changes. For starters, there’s a new UI for folders on the home screen and you can now also switch between them by swiping left or right. Moreover, the launcher now supports something called “double finger slide” which lets you hold a particular item while shifting the home screen page. It’s certainly a nice little tweak, however, can prove useful for someone who constantly experiments with layouts.
Furthermore, you can now enable a light theme in the native gallery app, and it’s also now compatible with RAW format images. The file manager has been bumped up to version 1.7.1 which adds a long-press editing menu for files in search results.
The beta update – “OP3_OP2_Open_21” is now rolling out to OnePlus 3 and 3T testers and measures merely 75 MB. If you prefer side loading the ZIP file, you can find the instructions on OnePlus’ official support page. While there’s no news currently for Parallel apps’ availability on other OnePlus smartphones especially the OnePlus 5, we’re sure you won’t have to wait for long. You can, of course, always download a third party app like “Parallel Space” if you want something similar on your phone right now.
