Apple began its event with a tribute to Steve Jobs and Tim briefed about the all new Steve Jobs Theatre. Apple further explained how they have renamed their stores into Townsquare and also announced revamped stores in Paris. Apple has finally breached the 4K barriers with the all new Apple TV 4K. Yes, Apple may be late to the party when it comes to 4K but it sure has some interesting features to offer. The new Apple TV 4K also comes with HDR 10 for a better viewing experience. Thankfully this finally puts the Apple TV in league with the other players in the market including Roku and Amazon.
The CPU performance on the Apple TV 4K is now 2x times as that of its predecessor, thanks to the new A10X processor along with the new version of the tvOS. The Apple TV interface has not exactly been butter smooth however this seems to be taken care of by the new layout. The Apple TV 4K is capable of handling 4K video up to 60 fps. The Blu-ray supporting 60fps are already in the market and this kind of makes the Apple TV 4K future-proof. On a related note, the remastered wallpapers Apple demoed looked great in the demo.
Apple is apparently also working on the content front and aims at bringing a large collection of movies in 4K HDR to the iTunes. The company has also decided that the 4K HDR 10 movies will command a same price tag as the HD movies. It is good to see Apple working on its video offering since its been pretty bland lately. Also, the previous purchases will be automatically upgraded to 4K HDR as well. Apple will also be adding more live sports channels along with remote access to the Homekit.
The Apple TV 4K also comes with a redesigned remote, one that according to Apple allows users to operate the TV with a single finger. As far as pricing is concerned Apple 4K starts at $179 for the 32GB while the 64GB version retails at $199. In India, Apple TV 4K starts at INR 15900 for 32GB and is priced at INR 17900 for 64GB. Both the variants will be available starting from September while the shipping starts from September 22. The Apple TV 4K will be available across 21 countries.
