Amazon has now launched an enhanced version of its new Echo. It is called the Amazon Echo Plus. Basically, the Echo Plus works by functioning as a smart home hub. The Alexa powered smart speaker aim to take on the Apple HomePod and Google Home.
The Amazon Echo Plus looks way different from the new Echo. Incidentally, the Echo Plus has more in common with last year’s Echo in terms of design. It comes in a tall cylindrical plasticky form factor with a silver colored exterior. The Echo Plus is even taller than the original Echo.
Amazon Echo Plus Features
The all new speaker helps eliminate the need for an extra smart home hub. Additionally, it is pretty easy to setup the smart home hub. Amazon has made good use of its own intelligent assistant Alexa for building the Echo Plus. Alexa automatically names the devices as soon as you set it up for the first time. It follows a sweet little naming nomenclature too. So, the first one that setup will be automatically referred to as ‘First light’. Moreover, you won’t need to install any other apps to set up your smart home gadgets with the Amazon Echo Plus. The speaker supports over 100 devices out of the box. These include bulbs, light, and locks.
Amazon is bundling in a Philips Hue smart bulb along with its smart speakers. These bulbs can be set up in just a single step. In fact, the main purpose of making the Echo Hub is to simplify the steps of setting a smart home device. Mostly, the process of setting up one is rather tedious and often take up more than a dozen steps. Furthermore, the e-commerce giant promises that its Echo Plus has better bass and treble than in the Echo 2.
Amazon Echo Plus Price and Availability
The Amazon Echo Plus costs just $149 (Rs 9,780), thereby undercutting the Echo 2 and the original first generation Echo. The new speaker cum smart home hub will be available for pre-orders starting tonight.
