The one thing I absolutely hated about the movies purchased online was the lack of a single digital locker to store them all. There was no way to bring all of the movies from different retailers under one umbrella (Ultraviolet let me down with limited support) that is until now. Over the years, Disney has been one of the biggest studios, and their collection is something that’s worthwhile. Disney has been offering its cloud movie locker for quite some time, and this time around, other Hollywood bigwigs have joined them. The best, however, is that the Movies Anywhere can connect to iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play. All the movies that have been purchased via those accounts will appear in a single place.
The latest version of the Movies Anywhere boasts of a better catalog from a wide range of production studios. The list of studios includes Warner Bros, Universal, Sony Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox. This, according to Disney, will give them a right over 7,300 movie titles. Things just don’t stop here; Movies Anywhere is also expected to ink a deal with Paramount Pictures and Lion Gate.
As the Verge rightly points out, UltraViolet was the first service to offer a digital locker for all the movies purchases. Eventually, the going got tough for Ultraviolet, and their services were apparently marred by poor customer experience and also the limited services that they offered. Movies Anywhere seem to have taken care of all the apparent bottlenecks, and it is for this reason the service is platform agnostic. The Movies Anywhere is available on iOS, Apple TV, Android, Android TV, Amazon Fire and will also be bundled with Roku.
We also hope that the makers of Movies Anywhere have taken due care of the user interface. That being said once the accounts are linked the movies will appear automatically. Movies Anywhere will also let the consumers browser for titles within the app and purchase the same with their retailer of choice. Furthermore, the titles can also be downloaded for offline viewing and also support secondary accounts. The first two movies will be free when the users link their Movies Anywhere account with the retailer. The service also supports redemption codes, if you have a Blu-Ray or DVD with the code the same can also be accessed in the Movies Anywhere. If you are interested in the Movies Anywhere sign up here.
