Xiaomi is all set to add yet another series in its smartphone lineup in India. The China-based OEM has sent out press invites for an event on the 2nd of November which shows a lightning icon. It’s worth noting the company’s MIUI9 ROM has a similar icon. Hence, we’re expecting a global launch for the new update as well. In addition to that, Manu Jain, VP of Xiaomi, has teased a new selfie-centric smartphone series on his social handles.
If rumors are to be believed, there’s a good chance Xiaomi is finally making its Mi Note series available in India. The company, not long ago, unveiled its third-generation, Mi Note 3 and specifically highlighted its AI-powered selfie capabilities at the launch event in China. It was priced at 2,499 Yuan (Rs 24,500/$383) for the base variant and 2,899 Yuan (Rs 28,400/$444) for the 128GB storage option. Hence, this smartphone might be the company’s ticket in the mid-range price bracket. Xiaomi also entered the high-end market with the Mi Mix 2 launch last month.
Interestingly, the Oppo is announcing the Oppo F5 on the same day as well. And if you are even more remotely familiar with the OEM’s previous phones, the selfie camera will remain at the forefront of this one too. However, if Xiaomi manages to outpace Oppo in its most critical USP, there’s a good chance the former will significantly extend its lead in the Indian market. Additionally, Xiaomi has doubled on its offline presence in the last few months, another area where Oppo has been able to establish an indomitable position.
Xiaomi has been aggressively bringing in smartphones in India for the past few months including two new series with the launch of the Xiaomi A1 and Mi Mix 2. Furthermore, the company recently announced a record-breaking month with over 4 million in sales across various channels. If at all the company brings the Mi Note 3 to India, it will sit right between the Mi A1 and Mi Mix 2 in terms of pricing.
