Searching for attachments on Gmail can be a bit of a hassle if you don’t know what you are doing. Scrubbing through tens of emails only to find that one image you need to urgently forward doesn’t sound productive at all. Hence, we present you a Chrome extension — Dittach — that adds a nifty attachment sidebar to your inbox.
Dittach is a free extension for Google Chrome which essentially compiles attachments from all of your emails to build a searchable catalog. It pins this directory to the right of your Gmail inbox bringing all the files just a mouse click away. You can browse this list for locating a particular attachment or make use of the filters which partitions the items into their respective formats such as images, documents, audio and more. In addition to that, you can categorize them based on whether you received or sent it. Lastly, there’s a green nub on the corner using which you can scroll date-wise.
Clicking a particular attachment will let you either forward it or choose from a few other options including download, view the email, and open the file in another tab. However, the most attractive feature Dittach comes with is the ability to search from the Gmail’s inbuilt search bar located at the top of your inbox. Typing a specific keyword there will bring up the matching attachments along with the usual list of messages. Neat indeed.
Another perk worth mentioning is that, unlike other Gmail attachments, this one doesn’t bog down the loading times and performance. Since Google limits the number of attachments Dittach can index every day, it won’t be helpful for locating attachments you received months ago. However, it will continue to add as you use it. Hence, eventually, mostly all of your attachments will be filed in there. Dittach is completely free of cost and you can download it from the link down below.
