Apple has launched the Apple Music for Artists. The new variation of Apple Music comes laced with deep analytic insights for the artists. The dashboard will help artists understand the listening and the buying habits of the users. The Apple Music for Artists is currently in beta and is being tested out with a few thousand artists. The feedback taken from the artists will be incorporated in the forthcoming builds.
The Apple Music for Artists will open up for all the artists by Spring this year and will help the content creators with stats like the number of plays, spins, song purchase, and album purchase. Moreover, the artists can also check the stats for a predefined time period or even customise the time period. Thankfully the tool will populate stats from as far as 2015 (the year Apple Music was released), and this is expected to help artists understand their core audience.
That said, Apple is once again late to the party, other streaming services like Spotify, Pandora and YouTube already offer analytics to their artists. Let us hope like always Apple hits the bull’s eye and offers a deeper and more meaningful analytic as opposed to its competitors. The insight panel also matches the data against key milestones like all-time number of plays and purchases for specific songs. The trend line will also how popular the tracks are at any given point in time.
Yet another impressive aspect of the Apple Music for Artists is the demographic analytics. Artists can simply click on a particular country to see how their music is faring in that region. Adding to the detail, they can also take a look at the details of their audience. For instance, an Artist can see how many females in the age group of “16-18” residing in Florida listen to their songs.
The Apple Music Artist insight is a welcome move, especially since many of the mid-level and indie music makers are devoid of strongly backed analytics. One of the pros of streaming service is that Music makers no more need to rely on distributors and marketers to promote their albums.
