Xiaomi is known for its affordable Redmi lineup which takes the budget smartphone market by storm every year by providing excellent price to performance ratio. Recently, the Redmi 5A was identified as the most selling Android smartphone in the world and there’s no doubt that Xiaomi has made its way up to being India’s most sought-after brand when it comes to smartphones.
Even though Xiaomi’s latest offerings in the Redmi lineup, the Redmi 5, Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro are relatively recent, there already are not one or two, but three new device listings spotted on TENAA giving rise to a Redmi 6 lineup possibility pretty soon.
The three devices that were spotted feature a 3000mAh battery which is pretty low considering the mammoth batteries that Xiaomi has been using for a while now. But looking at the other specs in common with the 3 devices, including a 5.45-inch 1440x720p display, the battery seems to be fine as it does not have to power a high-res or a very large display. The resolution also confirms the presence of an 18:9 aspect ratio for the display panel. Another attribute in common with all the 3 devices is a 5MP front-facing camera.
The entry-level device which goes by the model M1804C3CC as per the TENAA listing is slated to come with a Quad-Core 2GHz processor, 2GB of RAM accompanied by 16GB of storage which is expandable. There is a 13MP snapper to the back and as mentioned earlier, a 5MP shooter to the front handles selfies. The images on TENAA show the absence of a fingerprint scanner on the device hinting that this device is going to be the most inexpensive of the lot. The Redmi 6A maybe?
The next device is a slight upgrade over the first one with no noteworthy cosmetic changes but with an upgraded CPU which is an Octa-Core 2GHz processor and with 2/3GB + 16/32GB RAM-storage configurations. The rear camera is a 12MP unit while the front shooter is the same 5MP sensor. This goes by the model M1804C3CE on TENAA.
Moving to the device with the best configuration among the ones leaked, the model M1804C3DE sports the same 2GHz Octa-Core CPU with 2/3/4GB + 16/32/64GB RAM-storage variants but this time with a dual camera setup on the back with one 12MP sensor and the other unknown, and it also sports a fingerprint scanner which is missing from the other 2 variants.
One thing common in all the 3 devices is the series of tiny holes on the rear panel indicating either a rear speaker (which seems unlikely) or the support for wireless charging (which also seems unlikely given the price points these phones will be released at). We’ll just have to wait and see what these dots have to indicate.
So is this the Redmi 6 lineup? It’s too early to say as it’s just been a few months since Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi 5 lineup of phones last December. However, Xiaomi might change their strategy and launch a new series of affordable phones aimed at a particular demographic only in a certain region like Mainland China, or in their latest entry, France.
