Ather was one of the first players to bring a smart e-scooter to India. The company showcased its first electric scooter in 2016 and has now launched two new e-scooters in its lineup. The Ather 340 is priced at Rs 1,09,750 while the Ather 450 is priced at Rs 1,24,750. Both the prices are on road. The company is also offering a charging cable for early adapters and a one-year subscription plan free of cost.
As of now, both the electric scooters will only be available in Bengaluru and the company is planning to expand their presence to 12 major cities by 2020. Ather seems to be taking the Tesla route and is installing AtherGrid, its very own EV charging grid across the city. By the year 2022, Ather is expected to set up 6,500 charging points across India.
Moving on, the 340 and the 450 both look similar. The major difference lies in the battery capacity and the output of the electric motor. The Ather 340 draws its power from a 4.4Kw motor and is rated for a top speed of 70kph with a 0-40 acceleration time of 5.1 seconds. For those of you who need more power, the Ather 450 fits the bill. It comes with a 5.4kW motor with a top speed of 80kph and reaches 0-40kph in 3.9 seconds.
The riders can control their range by toggling between power and economy modes. The ARAI figures are yet to arrive. However, Ather claims the 340 offers a range of 60Km in Economy Mode and 75km in power mode. Both the figures are derived from real-world situations. Meanwhile, the 450 offers 75Km in economy mode and 60km in the power mode. The best part, however, is that the scooters can be charged from 0-100percent in just 50 minutes.
Well, the Ather S340 that was launched in 2016 was studded with state of the art features and the new Ather’s are no different. Both the variants will come with a 7-inch touchscreen display, adaptive LED headlight, over-the-air update, charging station, GPS, geo-fencing, location tracking and data diagnostic alerts. All the data can also be accessed by synching up the companion app.
Interestingly, Ather is also offering a subscription plan for stress-free ownership. Ather will offer free charging across the grids for the subscribers. The subscribers will be reimbursed once in every three months. The subscription plan will also entail the customers to free maintenance, free data for navigation, OTA and roadside assistance. The subscription starts at Rs 700 per month.
