Asus today has launched three new premium segment notebooks in India with focus on performance, portability and endurance. The three new laptops are – Zenbook Pro, Zenbook S and Zenbook 13. The Taiwanese firm has been trying its luck in the premium PC segment for a while now and this new addition to the portfolio should improve its cause.
Zenbook Pro 15
The Zenbook Pro 15 is a top of the line notebook with CPU options of either an eighth generation Core i9 chipset from Intel which is the 8950HK or an i7-8750H. The display is a 15.6-inch touchscreen panel with a 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160) with 100% Adobe RGB color calibration. On the graphics front, the Zenbook Pro comes equipped with an NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM. What enhances the performance further is 16GB of DDR4 2400 MHz RAM along with a choice of 512GB/1TB PCle M.2 SSD.
The Zenbook Pro doesn’t skimp out on ports and has 2 USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 support along with 2 USB 3.1 Type-A ports, a full sized HDMI port, a micro SD card slot and a combo audio jack. There is a 71 Wh battery for juice and the keyboard is backlit as well. The Zenbook Pro can also be unlocked with the help of a fingerprint scanner present on the front close to the trackpad. Despite packing in a lot of horsepower, the Zenbook Pro weighs in at a very acceptable 1.8 Kgs.
The highlight of the Zenbook Pro, however, is its touchpad which also has a display built into it, which Asus is calling a ScreenPad. The ScreenPad can perform multiple functions apart from being a trackpad like running apps, mirroring your smartphone screen, controlling your music, display app specific toolbars and even recognize your handwriting and convert it into text. You can also use it as an extended display for performing two tasks at once. Also, all your regular touchpad gestures for scrolling and navigation are present as well.
We spent some time with the Zenbook Pro and in our few minutes of usage, it seemed quite responsive and intuitive. If you multitask a lot or you wish to receive and reply to notifications on your smartphone, the ScreenPad is a great addition.
The Zenbook Pro 15 will go on sale starting today for a price of Rs. 1,79,990 for the i7 variant while the top-end i9 variant will retail for Rs. 2,09,990.
The second notebook launched is the Zenbook S which is aimed at professionals and sports more of a corporate look. There hasn’t been any compromise made with respect to CPU performance as the Zenbook S comes with the Intel Core i7-8550U which is a 1.8GHz quad-core chipset with turbo boost up to 4 GHz. However, there is no dedicated GPU but Intel’s Integrated Graphics 620 instead.
The display is 13.3-inches in size with a Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) covering a wide 100% sRGB color gamut. On the memory front, there is up to 16GB of 2133 MHz LPDDR3 RAM along with up to 512GB pf PCle SSD. A full-sized backlit keyboard occupies the front along with a touchpad with a fingerprint scanner built in.
The Zenbook S however misses out on a lot of essential ports and offers just three USB 3.1 Type-C ports out of which two offer Thunderbolt support, along with the presence of a combo audio jack. The highlight of the Zenbook S is its unique hinge which when opened elevated the keyboard at an angle of 15 degrees which makes it easier for users to type on it.
The final variant in the Zenbook line-up includes the Zenbook 13 which is more of a compact notebook meant for use on the go. It has a rugged design and is military standard 810G certified for drop protection.
The Zenbook 13 is powered by Intel’s eighth generation Core i5 or i7 ‘U’ series processors along with Intel UHD integrated graphics. The display is a 13.3-inch panel with a Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) and comes with an anti-glare coating. The notebook weighs in at just 985g but still retains some useful ports like a full-size HDMI port, 2 USB 3.1 Type-A ports, a USB 3.1 Type-C port, an audio jack and a micro SD card reader. There’s 8 or 16GB RAM options along with up to 512GB of M.2 PCle SSD. Additional features include a backlit keyboard, a fingerprint scanner and a 50 Wh battery to power the laptop.
The laptops will be available to purchase starting today on online portals as well as in offline retail stores across India.
