Xiaomi’s new sub-brand, Poco is all set to introduce its first smartphone. Poco has scheduled an event in the capital city of its parent’s most active market, India on the 22nd of this month. The phone maker is expected to unveil the much-anticipated Poco F1 which is said to rival the likes of the OnePlus 6 with a Snapdragon 845 processor and affordable price tag.
Earlier, the Poco F1 was also leaked in an unboxing clip which revealed much of its hardware specifications. In addition to Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset, the Poco F1 will allegedly feature a 5.99-inch tall notch-equipped display with a resolution of 1080p and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The phone is also rumored to have a liquid cooling system possibly for being a gaming-centric product.
As for the rest of the specifications, the Poco F1 will likely have 6GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a large 4000mAh which will be compatible with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology. The camera arrangement is expected to house two camera sensors on the rear — a primary 12-megapixel lens coupled with a secondary 5-megapixel snapper. On the front, it will have a 20-megapixel selfie camera.
Poco (as it’s known in India and as Pocophone globally) is headed by Jai Mani, who used to handle MIUI in the past. While we can only speculate on the possible positioning of Poco as a brand, the company has stressed on the “speed” aspect a lot in its limited communication with media and users.
It remains to be seen whether the Poco F1 will inherit Xiaomi’s custom MIUI skin or will be bundled with something new. The leaked video did show MIUI 9 running on the phone, but that’s not a conclusive enough proof for us. While the Poco F1 was listed a few weeks ago on a website for 1,999 Romanian Leu, which roughly translates to Rs 34,265, we expect the company to price at a much lower cost in India. We’ll have more details of the phone from the launch next week.
