Coolpad, in an event held at New Delhi today, has launched its new smartphone exclusive to the Indian market, the Coolpad Mega 5A. The Mega 5A will be sold offline exclusively and is targeted towards budget-oriented smartphone buyers.
Talking about specs, the Coolpad Mega 5A sports a 5.47-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The back sports a dual camera set up with a primary 8MP sensor and a secondary 0.3MP lens for depth sensing. There’s a 5MP front facing shooter for selfies. One aspect of the phone which might seem disappointing to many is the use of a Spreadtrum SC9850K processor under the hood which is clocked at 1.3GHz and is a quad-core SoC.
The battery is a 2500mAh pack and the software is Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. There’s a fingerprint scanner to the back along with support for face unlock as well.
Syed Tajuddin, CEO, Coolpad India, said, “Coolpad is committed to offer best in class products, feature-rich products that are priced right. Running on 8.1 Android Oreo, with a great screen display and a powerful battery life, Coolpad Mega 5A will set another industry benchmark which is tough to match. We have adopted an aggressive channel expansion strategy with offline channel as our primary focus area. India is a key market for Coolpad, and we will be launching a range of products that will cater to a wider audience base.”
The Coolpad Mega 5A will be available for purchase from 16 August 2018 onwards for a price of Rs. 6,999 across 8 states – Delhi NCR, Haryana, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
For Rs. 6,999, phones like the Xiaomi Redmi 5 offer better value for money with a much more powerful SoC in the form of Snapdragon 450, but Coolpad is probably banking on Xiaomi’s lack of offline reach when they want to sell the Mega 5A at this price.
