Fortnite, the game that ranked ninth on the list of apps that generated the most revenue (AppStore + PlayStore) combined, despite not being available on Google’s PlayStore, has launched an iOS-only update. Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, released a recent update for its iOS app that allows users to play the game in 60fps. However, at the moment, this feature is only available for the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max.
With the ability to be able to run the game in 60fps, Fortnite aims to bring gaming experience on smartphones close to gaming consoles. Even the Nintendo Switch, known for its gaming experience, doesn’t allow 60fps option, which makes the experience on iPhones much more crisp and smooth. In addition to that, the 60fps option is available across all graphics presets, unlike PUBG, which also offers 60fps, but at the lowest graphics setting.
Talking about the advantages and disadvantages, it all comes down to the user’s requirements. Some might take it as a welcome change and vouch for it for providing a smooth gaming experience, while also providing an advantage over other iPhone or Android users.
Having said that, playing the game at max settings at 60fps could also bring along problems of heating issue, excessive battery usage, etc. Due to which, it might turn out to be a hit or miss for most of the devices in the initial stages of the feature being rolled out, and would definitely require optimization to combat heating issues, battery usage, etc. So it seems, the best thing to do right now is to check whether your device works flawlessly with the settings enabled and if it doesn’t then probably switching to a medium setting preset with 60fps.
For those who own an Android, there’s a big chance that Fortnite could also release an update to provide the 60fps feature there as well. And it would be really interesting to see devices like the Asus ROG Phone and Razer Phone 2 take advantage of the 60fps feature, with their 90 and 120 Hz refresh rate display respectively. Though some might argue that these refresh rates are a bit overkill for mobile phones, the thing is, they stand a much better chance of providing a stupendously seamless gaming experience than most of the other Android counterparts.
On the other hand, if you own an iPhone Xr, Xs, or Xs Max, you can feel yourself lucky and home. So without wasting any more time, go ahead and update the game from AppStore straight away. And enjoy racking up those enemies with an amazingly smooth gaming experience.
