After numerous leaks and teasers, the McLaren Edition OnePlus 6T has finally launched in India today. The phone was launched globally on Tuesday marking OnePlus’ fifth anniversary. The new OnePlus 6T McLaren edition is an updated high-end version of the regular OnePlus 6T with bumped up specs and a brand new colour. It’s like the OnePlus 6T, on steroids! The device originates from the partnership between McLaren – British Formula One car maker and OnePlus.
The new McLaren Edition OnePlus 6T sports a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a 2340 x 1080 resolution, similar to one on the regular OnePlus 6T. It has a teardrop notch at the top, extremely thin bezels all around, and an in-display fingerprint scanner for authentication. Since the device is a high-end variant of the OnePlus 6T, the RAM and internal storage have been bumped to 10GB and 256GB respectively. In the camera department, the device comes with a dual (16MP + 20MP) camera on the rear and a 16MP selfie camera on the front.
In addition to that, another change that the company has made to its McLaren Edition OnePlus 6T is the charging technology and the charger that comes bundled in. Over the years, OnePlus has changed the name for its charging technology on two occasions. Initially, the company used the term ‘Dash Charging’ to address its charging technology until it launched the OnePlus 6T when the company decided to rebrand the charging technology and renamed it to ‘Fast Charging’. And now, with the Formula One effect coming to the device, the company is branding its charging technology on its special edition OnePlus 6T as ‘Warp Charging’.
It seems they haven’t just rebranded the charging technology, but have also changed the power brick and cable that used to come bundled with the device. With the McLaren Edition OnePlus 6T, the company will start shipping a 30W charger (instead of 20W) and braided cable (instead of the regular cable) in the box. As claimed by the company, the new Warp Charging – based on Oppo’s Super VOOC charging, delivers a day’s power with just 20 minutes of charge.
The most distinctive thing about the McLaren Edition OnePlus 6T is its colour – papaya orange, running all the way through the edges to the bottom of the device, giving it the aesthetic appeal of a classic Formula One car. The rest of the back is a glossy black that transitions smoothly into the orange and showcases a carbon fibre design when tilted off its axis.
