Samsung might be late into the party. But they are determined to take on Apple nevertheless. After taking on the Apple iPad through their Galaxy Tab phone, Samsung will be coming out with Android based Galaxy Player to take on Apple iPod Touch!
Samsung will be unveiling their media player in January at CES 2011 in Las Vegas. According to Apple Insider, the iPod touch-like handheld “will be based on the company’s popular Galaxy S smartphone, without its mobile phone capabilities, and will run Google’s Android OS 2.2 Froyo.”
Galaxy S is without a doubt the best Android phone in terms of sales and most successful when it comes to competition with iPhone 4. Galaxy Tab though has been a let down of sorts as it has considerably failed to take on Apple’s iPad. Now it appears that the Galaxy Player will take on Apple’s market domination with the iPod touch, complete with a handheld device that includes a front-facing VGA camera, a rear 3.2 megapixel camera and storage capacities of 8GB, 16GB and 32GB.
I personally feel that Samsung is almost a year late to enter the portable media player market as Apple has strengthened the foothold with their stunning, feature rich iPod Touch 4G. It will be interesting to see if Samsung manages to stump us with any surprise during the CES launch of Galaxy Media Player.
