As many of us were expecting Xiaomi to announce their next flagship, the Mi 5, the Chinese Apple has instead announced their new flagship series, the Mi Note which is basically a phablet taking on the Apple iPhone 6 Plus. At a gala event in Beijing, Xiaomi announced the new Mi Note and Mi Note Pro in its trademark style.

Both the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro come with 5.7-inch display. While the Mi Note carries a 1080p Full HD screen, the Mi Note Pro comes with a 2K (Quad HD) display. The Mi Note is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor along with 3GB of RAM, while the Mi Note Pro carries the latest 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor and 4GB of RAM. Both devices carry 3D curved glass display with Gorilla Glass 3, dual 4G connectivity, Sony 13MP camera with f/2.0 aperture with OIS, 4MP front camera, Hi_Fi audio system and 3000 mAh battery with Quick charge 2.0 support.

The Mi Note has been priced at ¥2299 (16GB) and ¥2799 (64GB) which translates to approximately $370 (Rs.23,000) and $450 (Rs.28,000) respectively. The Mi Note Pro comes in a single 64GB variant and is priced at ¥3299 (~$530 or Rs.33,000).

The devices are characterized by super-thin 3mm bezels giving them a compact look like on the Mi 4. The Mi Note is just 6.95mm thin and weighs just 161g. The 13MP rear camera is the second gen Sony IMX214 lens with CMOS sensor and f/2.0 aperture promising excellent low light performance. The devices come with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for better low light snaps. There’s also a Philips 2-tone flash to deliver true-to-life lighting. The front camera is a 4MP affair with large 2-micron pixels.

When it comes to connectivity, the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro comes with Dual 4G with dual standby, with one supporting a nano-sum and the other supporting a micro-SIM. This is the first time we are seeing dual 4G connectivity on a smartphone. The Mi Note Pro comes with cat-9 LTE support with speeds up to 450Mbps.

Xiaomi has some special features when it comes to audio support as well. The Mi Note and Mi Note Pro come with Hi-Fi audio system and 24-bit/192KHz lossless playback support, something similar to what we saw on the Honor 6 Plus last month. In addition to mp3, the devices will support APE, FLAC, DSD and WAV lossless formats as well.

  1. based on the price tag, I guess these 2 models are made for developed countries. unlike Apple, most manufacturer uses lower quality materials for the product meant for 3rd world countries, more often than not, these cheaper materials are harmful to our health and damage the environment.

To be able to cell to Europe, all products must have the CE cert. Thus, I believe these 2 phones are meant for both 3rd world countries and developed.

      1. I guess you don’t understand how the industry works. Trust me, your view is so wrong on many levels.

I have friends that works in the comp industry and the plastic they use have many different quality. Which is why they have different model number for different countries.

For 3rd world countries like India, China and etc, they use lower quality plastic with possible toxic materials. For Europe, they are forced to use higher quality plastic, thus the design might be the same, the material quality is different.

You are so so so wrong on multiple levels. Educate more, blog less. Learn and study more.

      2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CE_marking

Read more Raju. This is why XiaoMi and most chinese phones are cheaper, because they do not use the best material, they do not use the safest material.

Yes, I am a Chinese. This is why XiaoMi cannot export Mi3 to Europe/America.

This is why I think the new Note and Note Pro has a higher price tag because they probably have plans to export them, thus they prbably use better materials.

        1. Mr. Dimwit, keep your stupid logic to yourself. OnePlus one which is priced same as mi4 AND from China again is sold in Europe and US with the same CE certification. I feel stupid to argue with a lame ass like you who think quality of plastic decides the cost of a mobile phone

          1. Mr.Stupid. There are other smartphone makers from China that sells in Europe and USA too. I know that, for instant, Huawei, Lenovo and etc.

I feel even more stupid for your lame ass stupidity. It is not the quality of the plastic, it is the quality of everything, from glass to plastic to metal to the process and environment.

Go work for a smartphone company and learn how they source their materials before opening your mouth. Some plastic contain tiny amount of lead, they are cheaper.

          2. OMG. How do you manage to go from bad to worse? You never bothered to answer how oneplus manages to sell their phone so cheap (same price as mi4). That’s because you can’t answer. Let me answer that for you. They have a different biz model than other companies for “instant” Lenovo, Huawei etc. They save money on marketing and pass on the savings to customers. I am sure you aren’t educated enough to understand the economics

          3. Read, and read more, and then go work in a factory and source materials in China. Then disconnect your internet, you stupid idiot. Here is a report from Green Peace, not some stupid blog like yours.

“Recent market changes could also threaten the significant progress made so far on mobile phones.Manufacturers of low cost smartphones – such as Huawei, Xiaomi and Micromax – that are taking an increasing share of the market, urgently need to adopt plans to eliminate hazardous substances to ensure that the environmental progress made over the past five years is not lost.”

“Low-cost Chinese companies are taking an increasing market share in the mobile market. Huawei has 7% of the global smart phone market, and newcomers Xiaomi and Micromax have seen huge growth in China and India respectively, taking over Samsung’s market leader position during the second quarter of 2014 in the world’s biggest smart phone markets. It is currently unclear if any of these Chinese companies will follow best practice on hazardous substance phase-out, as established by other mobile manufacturers. Microsoft has dropped its previous commitment to PVC and BFR phase-out, and no longer has a commitment to eliminate these hazardous substances. Amazon is moving aggressively to expand its dominance of the e-reader segment to tablets, and most recently the mobile market with the launch of its Fire Phone in June 2014. Amazon fails to provide any public information on the environmental performance of its consumer electronics devices.”

          4. Mr. A$$hole Chinese, you have immense problems comprehending English. It is very apparent this is not your native language. I wish this was my blog. And read this thing you pasted yourself A$$hole – “It is currently unclear if any of these Chinese companies will follow best practice on hazardous substance phase-out, as established by other mobile manufacturers.”

          5. Guys, behave yourself. Your choice of words are dismal. I’ll be forced to delete your comments if you continue like this.

          6. You dense motherfcker. Do u think mi4 will be the same price if is complies with CE rules and regulation?

That’s like saying Sony Xperia is cheaper than mi4… compare mi4 in China without CE and the one in europe with CE.

            I feel stupid replying you.

Again. IT IS NOT JUST THE QUALITY OF THE FCKING PLASTIC. It is everything. from the plastic to the metal, to the way they handle the waste.

Maybe you are so stupid, let me give u a very simple example.

If the Chinese want to sell their cars in Europe, can they do it with their current lineup in China? No. If they comply with EU rules, for the same model, they can, the cost will be higher. It means they have to use better quality stuff, fuel efficient engines and etc.

If you traveled enough, you will know why the same model of laptops by Sony comes with different model numbers.

          7. Haha a$$hole is now resorting to bad mouthing as he doesn’t have the proof I demanded. What’s mi4 in Europe with CE? You saw that in your dreams?
