Microsoft has launched its new flagships, the Lumia 950 and the 950XL at an event in India today. The Lumia 950 is priced at Rs 43,699 while the 950XL commands a premium price tag of Rs 49,399. The flagships will usher in a new Microsoft that has been heavily banking on its Windows 10 ecosystem to help it gain the lost foothold in the premium handset market. The Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950XL will be put up on sale starting from 11th of December, however buyers can also prebook the devices.

The Lumia 950 is equipped with a 5.2-inch QHD display and will draw its power from the Hexa core Snapdragon 808 SoC clocked at 1.8GHz and coupled with a 3GB of RAM. The Lumia 950 XL will not only sport a larger 5.7-inch QHD display but it also comes with a different SoC in the form of the octa core Snapdragon 810 clocked at 2.0GHz and glued to a 3GB of RAM.

Both the 950 and 950 XL share almost the same innards except for the SoC – the 20-Megapixel primary sensor comes with Optical Image Stabalization, triple LED flash and it supports native 4K video recording. The secondary camera takes the form of a 5-Megapixel sensor and both the devices come with an expandable memory card slot and a USB Type-C port. Apart from the Lumias, Microsoft has also pulled the wraps from the Display Dock connector which will play an important role in fostering the Windows 10 ecosystem and enabling the Continuum feature. Also, in India, both the devices support dual sim.

In our initial impressions, we couldn’t help but notice how flimsy the back panels are on both the devices, specially on the Lumia 950. Thankfully, there are user replaceable back panels, specially the leather ones from MOZO which can give them the much needed premium look and feel.

The Lumia 950 and the 950XL will be made available at the Microsoft Priority dealers, Croma and Sangeeta Mobiles. Buyers can pre book both the devices till 11 of December and the ones who prebook will also be treated to a free Dock connector, which would otherwise cost Rs 5,999. Both the Lumia flagship will come in black and white colors.

Update: Pre-order has gone live on as well. The pricing and offers remain same, although they have some change offers as well. Lumia 950XL and Lumia 950.
