Apple has announced a Red variant for the iPhone 7 and the 7 Plus along with a new 9.7-inch iPad that comes equipped with A9 chip. The new iPad will succeed the iPad Pro 2 and runs on the latest iOS 10. Yes, those of us who were anticipating the new 10.5-inch iPad were in for disappointment but Apple might launch the bigger iPad later this year. The updated iPad 9.7 starts at Rs 28,900 in India for the Wi-Fi only model and Rs 39,900 for the Wi-Fi+Cellular.
Apart from the updated A9 Chip, the new iPad 9.7 comes with Retina display and a battery that Apple claims will last for an entire day. Both the front 1.3-Megapixel sensor and the rear 8-Megapixel sensor can record HD videos. Since the iPad 9.7 runs on iOS 10 one can also use features like multitasking with split view, Picture-in-Picture and also slide view. The iPad also comes with the TouchID fingerprint sensor but unlike the “Pro” the iPad 9.7 doesn’t pack in the Apple Pencil.
iPad is the world’s most popular tablet. Customers love the large, 9.7-inch display for everything from watching TV and movies, to surfing the web, making FaceTime calls, and enjoying photos, and now it is even more affordable,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “New customers and anyone looking to upgrade will love this new iPad for use at home, in school, and for work, with its gorgeous Retina display, our powerful A9 chip, and access to the more than 1.3 million apps designed specifically for it.
The new iPad will be available in three color options including silver, gold and space gray. At 7.5mm of thickness and 469gms of weight, the new iPad is expected to be a breeze to carry and use. The 802.11ac Wi-Fi is capable of delivering up to 866-Mbps throughput and the cellular variant will support all 4G LTE bands worldwide. Also, one could opt in for an Apple SIM.
As for the updated iPhone SE (which has got the storage upgrade), the pricing starts at Rs 27,200 for the 32GB model, which is considerably lower than the launch price of Rs 39,900 for the 16GB model back in 2015. Just a few days back, there was a steep drop in the price of the 16GB and 64GB models of iPhone SE in India. We hear that these two models will be phased out and replaced with 32GB and 128GB versions soon.
