Facebook will finally allow users to play games on its Messenger app. It has now started to roll out a major update to its popular messaging app which will allow all of its 1.2 billion+ user base to play a number of games on its platform. The social media giant had initially introduced Instant Games to Messenger back in the US last year.
As evident from the name, these games can be played almost instantly without the need to download any further data files. Facebook has now increased the number of available games on the app with the global roll out. Previously, Messenger came with proven gaming titles like Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Galaga. Now, the company says to have expanded its Instant Games library to over 50 titles that will be available to users depending on their device and country of origin.
Apart from that, Facebook has also announced that it will be launching the slew of new features it had previewed to developers at the annual F8 conference this year. Among them, one of the most noteworthy additions is the rich gameplay feature. This will apparently help developers create turn based games and leaderboard tournaments. Zynga’s Word With Friends is one of the first games to make use of this new feature. Some of the other new Instant Games bundled in the new Messenger app include Blackstorm’s EverWing and Miniclip’s 8 Ball Pool.
Facebook believes that the introduction of the Instant Games on Messenger would help attract new users as well as gel existing users to its platform. Needless to say, that these games have the possibility of reaching social virality within a few weeks of launch. With that said, I personally believe Facebook has come with yet another way to waste your previous time!
The latest Messenger update for Android and iOS with this new instant gaming feature will be rolled out completely worldwide over the next few weeks.
