Xiaomi hit the headlines a couple of weeks ago after it inaugurated the first Mi Home in India at Bengaluru. Mi Home houses all the Xiaomi products under one roof and has been a place of interest for many of us. According to Xiaomi, the Mi Home has apparently created a record after managing to sell products worth Rs 5 Crore within 12 hours of sales. Xiaomi even claims that more than 10,000 Mi Fans had flown in from different parts of the country.
“It was an extremely emotional day for all of us at the opening of our first Mi Home store. I am humbled by the unprecedented outpouring of love from all our Mi Fans who started lining up from 8 AM in the morning. I had a fun filled day with spending time with our fans, billing at the counters for our customers, entertaining people standing in a queue and answering multiple queries at Mi Home. Never did I imagine that with every passing hour we were quietly creating history in the Indian retail market.”- Manu Jain, VP, Xiaomi and Managing Director.
That being said, most of the smartphones put up on sale in Mi Home were not readily available online and this is most likely one of the reasons for the Mi Home to have garnered such a huge response. Devices including Redmi 4, Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4A accounted for a majority of sales along with accessories like Mi VR Play, Mi Air Purifier 2, Mi Router 3C and also the Mi Band 2. Even the Xiaomi Redmi 4 which is scheduled to go on sale on amazon.in tomorrow i.e 23 of May was available at Mi Home. The Mi Home is situated at the Phoenix Marketcity in Bengaluru and it lets users experience all the Mi products before they buy.
Xiaomi is planning to open 100 such Mi Home stores across India in the coming years. All said and done the Mi Home response is a telltale sign of Xiaomi’s selling potential if they bring in a free flow inventory and sell all the devices sans flash sales. The offline market has been devoid of strong performing budget smartphones and Xiaomi can easily fill in the void by creating an offline sales channel that runsparallell to the online.
