The action cameras from Xiaomi-backed Yi have been a major hit worldwide ever since its launch. The cameras that the company sells in its homeland are apparently made by a startup called Yi Technology. Xiaomi has some investment in Yi, but the company operates separately, and even this launch is independent of Xiaomi India.
A range of Yi products is now listed on Amazon. An ad banner on the site reveals that Yi has signed an exclusive deal with the American e-commerce portal for selling its cameras. Unlike in China, the Yi range of action and home cameras aren’t available for sale on the Mi India website. That’s pretty much how it operates and sell in countries like the US.
Yi has brought in a number of its cameras into India. For the uninitiated, Yi is regarded as the GoPro killer from China. Its 4K sports and action camera is available for sale on Amazon for Rs 17,990. The GoPro Hero 4 camera with 4K support, on the other hand, retails at Rs 50,270. The Yi 4K Action camera comes in night black and white pearl color variants.

The standard Yi Action camera is also listed on the e-commerce portal for Rs 6,990. It mainly misses out on the 4K recording capability of its costlier brother. Further, it uses a slightly date Sony IMX206 16MP lens and an Amarelle A7LS image processing chipset. Even then, it offers a pretty good value for money at that price point. Yi will be selling selfie sticks and Bluetooth remote along with this action camera.

The cheapest of the Yi products that are now available in India is a Wireless IP camera. It is called the Yi Home Camera Wireless IP security surveillance system. The IP camera costs Rs 2,990 and comes in two color variants. The home camera is a direct competitor to the offering from D-Link and Nest. Needless to say, it outruns its competition by a large margin in term of price. Yi Dome Camera is a slightly costlier IP camera at Rs 4,490. It is capable of recording 720p footage and can make pan and tilt movements, ideal for retail stores and small offices.
