It is not hard to guess what Amazon has in store when the company teases a hardware; it has to be an addition to the ever-expanding Echo lineups. Amazon has not only launched Echo but has also launched a pretty weird device called the Echo connect. The Echo connect Is an intelligent speaker that allows you to make landline calls using your voice. It syncs up with your existing number, and in case you are injured, or the phone is not in handy, you can use the voice activated Echo Connect.
It seems to be pretty evident that Amazon’s Connect is an attempt to bridge the gap between the traditional land phones. The Echo Connect acts mostly like an old-school landline speaker except the fact that it can be voice activated. The device will be linked to your phone number, and the receiver will still get your phone number as Caller ID. As of now, one could only call Echo devices, but with the Connect, you can call any numbers including 911.
The Echo Connect is up for preorder at $35, and it is expected to start shipping in the fourth quarter of this year. Apparently, calls from the US to Canada and Mexico will be free and its still not clear if international calls to the US will be free from the other countries. The launch in Britain and Germany is however delayed to early 2018.
Amazon has also launched Echo Buttons which can be used in tandem with the Echo devices for stuff like family games, trivia, etc. The button will light up when pressed, and it works similar to the ones shown on the television shows. Each pack of Amazon Echo Button consists of two buttons, and this will cost $20/pack. Amazon is also coming up with a slew of games that will make use of the Echo Connect buttons.
