HMD Global is gearing up to bring yet another Nokia-branded smartphone to India. The company has sent out invites for an event in Gurugram on this month’s October. While not confirmed yet, we’re expecting the launch of the recently announced Nokia 7. The handset will fill the mid-range price bracket void HMD Global has currently left in its portfolio. Just a few weeks ago, HMD Global also brought its high-end phone — the Nokia 8 in India as well.
The Nokia 7 was priced at 2,499 Yuan ($377/Rs 24,538 approx) in China for the base 4GB RAM variant and 2,699 Yuan ($407/Rs 26,500 approx) for 6GB RAM. Like before, we sure hope HMD Global sets a sensible price tag for India as the market continues to become more aggressive and competitive. We will be covering the event live, hence stay tuned for that.
In terms of specifications, the Nokia 7 features the usual trappings of a mid-range phone. This includes a standard5.2-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080p) IPS LCD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor, Android Nougat, 4/6GB RAM, 64GB internal storage which can be expanded, and a 3000mAh battery.
More notably, the Nokia 7 comes with the highly touted Dual Sight technology which essentially uses both the front and rear cameras simultaneously to shoot, what Nokia refers to as Bothies (you can call it whatever you want, it will still be a better title). The camera hardware of the Nokia 7 is powered by a 16MP f/1.8 rear camera and a 5MP wide-angle selfie shooter.
Purely going by the China pricing, the base 4GB RAM variant of Nokia 7 is expected to be priced around Rs 24,500, while the 6GB RAM variant is expected to be priced around Rs 26,500. At that price, it will be directly competing with the likes of Honor 8 Pro and Moto Z2 Play. But then, Nokia 7 would probably the first phone to come with the Snapdragon 630 processor in India as the Moto X4 launch is seemingly delayed for whatever reasons by Lenovo.
