Earlier this week Amazon started shipping the Alexa-powered Echo lineup in India and now, the company is all set to offer its music streaming service for free to its Prime members. The Alexa that comes with India is designed to recognize Indian accents and at Rs 3149 (~$49), the pricing is pretty affordable. With the Amazon Prime Music up and running, the subscribers will be getting access to unlimited ad-free music streaming across genres and languages.
The Amazon Prime Music can be accessed on multiple devices. The best part, however, is that the Prime Members will be treated to a free Amazon Prime Music membership along that runs in parallel with the Prime. This makes the Amazon Prime one of the best value for money proposition when it comes to streaming services. Amazon’s Prime subscription used to cost just Rs 499 (~$7.7) per year and has now been increased to Rs 999 (~$15.4).
Amazon includes Prime Music in its $7.7 (now $15) per year Prime subscription in India. The Amazon Prime membership in India offers free fast delivery, early access to deals, unlimited Amazon Prime Video streaming services and free delivery on Prime products. The Amazon Prime is available at $99 in the US but it includes additional services like Amazon Prime Reading, Twitch Prime, Unlimited Photo Storage and 5 percent extra cashback on with a Prime Credit Card.
The Amazon Music Unlimited is expected to be available at a later date and it is quite likely that Amazon will charge an additional subscription fee for the same. The Music Unlimited offers more songs and apparently, it also allows users to control and curate their music collection in a much better way. That apart, it the Prime Music launch seems to be perfectly timed with the Amazon Alexa devices picking pace in the Indian market.
When it comes to the on-demand streaming music services Apple Music and Spotify rule the roost. However, Amazon still ranks third with 16 million paid subscribers when it comes to music streaming. The scalability in markets like India will help Amazon to garner more subscribers. That being said, the success of the Amazon Prime Music in India will largely depend on the quality and extensivity of its regional catalogue. As per some of our sources, Amazon has managed to sign a deal with lot of top music labels in India for Prime Music. We got to wait and see to validate that.
