Less than a day after the launch of Xiaomi’s ‘Desh Ka Smartphone’, its homegrown competitor, Micromax, is ready to raise the heat with its new Bharat 5 smartphone. It’s a direct competition to the Xiaomi Redmi 5A that was launched by the Chinese OEM yesterday. Just like the Redmi 5A, the Micromax Bharat 5 aims to target the millions of first-time smartphone buyers in India.
The Micromax Bharat 5 is the latest smartphone in the company’s Bharat series. Previously, the Indian brand has launched its Bharat 3 and Bharat 4 smartphones in September. That aside, the Indian firm had also announced ultra-budget 4G feature phone in the form of the Bharat 1.
The low-cost smartphone from Micromax comes in a polycarbonate shell. It packs a 5.2-inch HD display up front and is powered by a MediaTek 6737 quad-core processor. That aside, it packs a large 5,000 mAH battery. Apparently, the battery is a major deciding factor in the budget smartphone market, and it’s nice to see that Micromax has got it right.
Evidently, the price is the major deciding factor in wooing feature phone users to enter the smartphone market. Therefore, the Micromax Bharat 5 has been priced at Rs 5,555. It will be available via offline stores starting December 7. It will be available only in a black color variant.

Despite competitive hardware, it’s tough to topple the Rs 4,999 priced Redmi 5A from Xiaomi. On paper, the Redmi 5A looks far better than the Micromax Bharat 5, but we will wait to check both the devices out personally before we pass a judgment.
